Trader Misses Out on $6 Million Profit After Selling Solana-Based Meme Coin Too Soon

A cryptocurrency trader recently experienced significant regret after selling his Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) tokens prematurely, missing out on a potential profit of over $6 million.

On October 10, the trader purchased 19.72 million GOAT tokens through three transactions between 21:37 and 21:48 UTC, spending 40 Solana (SOL)—equivalent to approximately $5,500 at that time.

Shortly after the purchase, GOAT’s price plummeted by more than 72% within just an hour, hitting a low of $0.00004076. In a panic, fearing that the token's value might drop to zero—common with new meme coins—the trader decided to liquidate his entire position at 22:24 UTC, just an hour after buying in.

He sold all 19.72 million GOAT tokens for a mere 7.87 SOL, or about $1,100, resulting in an 80% loss on his initial investment, totaling $4,400. Given the drastic price decline, this appeared to be a reasonable decision at the time. However, just five days later, the token’s price soared.

At the time of writing, the 19.72 million tokens the trader sold are now valued at over $6 million, as the price of GOAT surged to $0.3082. This marked an astonishing increase of 751,126% from its earlier low.

This incident is part of a growing trend of traders regretting early sales. In March, another investor who took part in the Book of Meme (BOME) presale sold their tokens too soon, netting over $100,000 in profits but missing out on a potential $1 million gain.

Similarly, in August, a trader sold their Sundog (SUNDOG) tokens for a profit of about $400 within 20 minutes, only to watch the token's value skyrocket to $2 million days later.
