Tether CEO Unveils Sneak Peek of AI Apps in Development

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has given the public a glimpse into the stablecoin issuer's upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives, revealing several innovative AI applications currently under development by the company. In a recent post, Ardoino shared a preview of three AI-driven features Tether is working on, aimed at improving user experience across desktop and mobile platforms.
The featured apps include an AI translator, an AI voice assistant, and a particularly intriguing AI Bitcoin wallet assistant. This Bitcoin wallet assistant is designed to offer seamless interaction with users' cryptocurrency wallets. Through voice commands, the assistant can manage wallet balances, execute crypto transactions, and even provide transaction details in real-time.
In the preview, a user commands the Tether AI assistant — known as the "Tether Payment Agent" — to display their Bitcoin wallet address, check the wallet balance, and list the names of recipients associated with their wallet. The assistant then executes a transaction by sending 0.001 BTC to a specified recipient, providing the user with a transaction ID upon completion.
Ardoino emphasized that these AI features are designed with user privacy in mind. The apps will operate locally on any device, ensuring complete self-custody of both data and funds. This aligns with Tether's broader commitment to privacy and decentralization.
Tether’s Ambitious AI SDK Platform
In addition to showcasing these AI tools, Ardoino also revealed that Tether is in the process of launching its own AI Software Development Kit (SDK) platform. The open-source platform will be based on Bare, a JavaScript runtime developed by Holepunch, and will be compatible with all hardware types. While the official launch date for the platform has not been disclosed, it is expected to further expand Tether’s role in the evolving AI space.
"Tether will launch soon its own AI SDK platform, open-source, built upon Bare (Holepunch’s javascript runtime), working on every hardware," Ardoino noted in his post. The platform aims to make AI applications more accessible and customizable for developers, as Tether positions itself as a key player in the burgeoning AI industry.
Tether’s Expanding AI Ambitions
Tether’s entry into the AI space comes as the company seeks to diversify its business beyond its primary revenue stream—its USDT stablecoin. In December 2024, Ardoino revealed plans to launch Tether's AI platform in the first quarter of 2025. This move follows Tether's previous steps into AI, including the establishment of a dedicated division in March 2024 focused on developing open-source AI models and collaborating with other companies to integrate those models into a variety of products.
In addition to AI, Tether has also expressed interest in expanding into Bitcoin mining, further broadening its scope in the cryptocurrency and technology sectors. As part of its commitment to AI, Tether has continued its investment in Northern Data, a cloud computing and AI startup, aiming to challenge the dominance of major tech players like Microsoft and Amazon.
"We believe this announcement redefines AI boundaries and democratizes privacy-preserving open AI technology," Ardoino said, underscoring Tether's ambitious vision for the future of AI.
As Tether continues to push the envelope in both the crypto and AI spaces, its growing involvement in the AI sector will be one to watch in 2025 and beyond.
