Michael Saylor’s Strategy Buys $285M in Bitcoin Amid Market Uncertainty

Michael Saylor’s digital asset firm, Strategy, has once again increased its Bitcoin holdings, acquiring 3,459 BTC for $285.5 million. The purchase, made at an average price of $82,618 per coin, pushes the company’s total Bitcoin stash to 531,644 BTC—valued at approximately $35.92 billion.

This latest acquisition underscores Strategy's continued conviction in Bitcoin, even as broader market sentiment turns cautious. According to a post by Saylor on X (formerly Twitter) dated April 14, the company has achieved an average acquisition price of $67,556 per BTC, resulting in an unrealized gain of over $9.1 billion—or a 25% increase.

Notably, this marks Strategy’s first Bitcoin purchase since March 31, when the company added $1.9 billion worth of BTC to its portfolio.

The buy comes at a time of increased market volatility, largely driven by geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in global trade. Investor risk appetite has waned following the U.S. government’s recent tariff changes. On April 9, President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on the implementation of higher reciprocal tariffs, reverting to a 10% baseline for most countries. China, however, remains subject to a steep 145% import tariff.

Despite these headwinds, Strategy’s aggressive Bitcoin strategy signals a firm belief in the asset’s long-term value proposition. As traditional institutions retreat from risk, Saylor’s firm appears to be betting that Bitcoin will emerge as a safe haven amid global uncertainty.
