Donald Trump Pardons Silk Road Creator Ross Ulbricht After Over a Decade in Prison

In a surprising move, U.S. President Donald Trump has granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the infamous Silk Road darknet marketplace, after more than 12 years in prison. President Trump made the announcement on January 21 through a post on his Truth Social platform. In the post, he revealed that he personally called Ulbricht's mother to inform her of the pardon, expressing his respect for her and the Libertarian Movement, which has been a vocal supporter of Ulbricht's release.

“I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross,” Trump wrote. He also criticized Ulbricht's sentence, calling it "ridiculous," citing the severity of a 40-year prison term plus two life sentences for his role in Silk Road.
