DOGS Token to Donate $4.5M in Unclaimed Airdrops to Charities, Partners with Best Friends Animal Society

DOGS, a memecoin built on The Open Network (TON), has announced plans to donate over 6 billion tokens, valued at approximately $4.5 million, to nonprofit organizations around the world. This donation comes after the launch of a new charity portal in late November, which allows registered nonprofits to apply for funding.
The initiative is part of DOGS' commitment to redirect a significant portion of unclaimed airdrop tokens toward charitable causes. Over the course of the year, the funds will be distributed to selected organizations after undergoing a rigorous approval process.
Partnership with Best Friends Animal Society
A key component of DOGS' charity drive is its partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare in the United States. DOGS has committed to a $150,000 contribution to support the society’s mission, which focuses on ending the killing of homeless pets in animal shelters.
“We are proud to partner with Best Friends Animal Society in the fight to ensure that every shelter reaches the 90% no-kill benchmark by 2025,” said Andrew, the founder of DOGS. “Through this collaboration, we will also provide funding for one month of care for adopted dogs.”
The partnership highlights DOGS' larger vision of leveraging the power of cryptocurrency and the global crypto community to promote animal welfare and make a tangible difference in shelters across the country.
DOGS: A Symbol of Digital Resistance
The DOGS token was inspired by Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov’s iconic dog drawing, which has become a symbol of Digital Resistance. This symbol traces back to 2011, when Durov faced pressure from authorities in Russia to remove posts from liberal thinkers and dissidents. DOGS' launch in 2023 reflects the TON rebrand following Durov’s arrest in France in August.
The DOGS project quickly gained traction, launching an airdrop in September 2023 that reached 17 million users. Additionally, the Dogs Mini App on Telegram has garnered over 53 million users, with 42 million eligible for the airdrop. The initiative aimed to raise crypto awareness on the messaging platform and promote animal welfare.
Spotty: The Mascot for Animal Welfare
As part of the charitable collaboration, DOGS’ mascot, ‘Spotty,’ will serve as the ambassador for Best Friends Animal Society. Spotty will appear at events and be featured in marketing materials to raise awareness for the cause. Originally conceived by Durov as part of a charity auction, Spotty has since become an iconic figure for The Open Network (TON).
Market Performance of DOGS Token
Following its launch, DOGS reached an all-time high of $0.0016 on August 28, 2023, when it briefly caused TON to go offline. However, like many memecoins, DOGS has since experienced volatility, with the token falling by 54.6% from its peak. The token has also seen a 4% drop recently as the broader memecoin market retreated.
Despite these fluctuations, DOGS remains committed to using its platform and token for social good, channeling its success into charitable contributions and partnerships with nonprofit organizations like Best Friends Animal Society. Through its charitable efforts and crypto-driven approach, DOGS is striving to make a meaningful impact on the global stage.
