DeltaPrime Sets Deadline for Hacker to Resolve $4.8M Attack or Face Legal Action

DeltaPrime, a decentralized finance (DeFi) borrowing and lending platform, has issued an ultimatum to the hacker responsible for a $4.8 million breach on November 11. The platform has set a deadline of 8 AM CET on November 14 for the attacker to initiate a conversation regarding the retrieval of the stolen funds. Failure to engage by that time will result in legal action and efforts to trace the hacker's identity.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on November 13, DeltaPrime co-founder Gavin Hasselbaink warned the attacker that if no communication is received, the incident will no longer be classified as a "white-hat hack" and the platform would pursue legal avenues to address the theft.
Following the hack, DeltaPrime attempted to contact the hacker by sending an on-chain message requesting a discussion about recovering the funds. However, Hasselbaink suggested that the hacker either overlooked the message or chose to delay a response.
The protocol emphasized its goal of "safe fund retrieval" and reassured the attacker that it remains committed to maintaining their anonymity. The platform noted that it had previously collaborated with attackers who voluntarily returned stolen assets, reinforcing its willingness to resolve the matter amicably.
A Pattern of Attacks
This latest breach marks the second time DeltaPrime has fallen victim to hackers. The previous incident, which occurred in September, saw the platform lose $6 million due to a vulnerability in its private key security. The attackers exploited this weakness to gain control of the platform's contract and drain its funds.
In the aftermath of the most recent attack, blockchain investigator ZachXBT raised concerns about DeltaPrime’s past hiring practices, noting that the platform had employed IT workers from North Korea. While the flagged personnel have since been removed, the connection between the hack and North Korea remains unclear.
With the deadline approaching, all eyes are on whether the attacker will respond or whether DeltaPrime will escalate the situation, taking more aggressive steps to recover the stolen funds.
