CryptoQuant CEO Advises Altcoins to Move Beyond Bitcoin’s Momentum

As Bitcoin continues to surge, driven by institutional investments and the rise of spot ETFs, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju suggests that altcoins should stop depending on Bitcoin’s growth and instead focus on attracting fresh capital with independent strategies.
In a recent post on X, Ju emphasized that the dynamics of capital inflow into Bitcoin have shifted. Now, it is primarily institutional investors and ETFs that are fueling Bitcoin's rally. According to Ju, these institutional players have no interest in rotating their investments from Bitcoin to altcoins, highlighting a key challenge for smaller cryptocurrencies.
Ju pointed out that small-cap altcoins are still largely dependent on retail investors on crypto exchanges, and for these altcoins to reach new highs, they would need a "significant influx of fresh capital" into exchanges. While retail interest in Bitcoin could potentially spark increased exchange activity, Ju believes Bitcoin's future growth will largely be driven by institutions, ETFs, and possibly government involvement, rather than by retail traders.
These comments come at a time when many market participants are waiting for a new “altcoin season” — a period where smaller digital assets typically experience substantial gains. However, with Bitcoin continuing to dominate the market, Ju suggests that altcoins should focus on developing their own strategies to attract new capital rather than relying on Bitcoin’s momentum.
As of the latest market data, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization stands at $3.24 trillion, with Bitcoin commanding a dominant $1.85 trillion of that total.
