Crypto Player Convinces AI Bot Freysa to Transfer $47K Prize Pool

In a remarkable turn of events, a participant in the Freysa game successfully persuaded an AI bot to transfer over $47,000 from its prize pool, marking the culmination of 482 attempts made by 195 participants.

Freysa is an autonomous AI bot designed to guard a prize pool, which participants aim to claim by sending a persuasive message. Each message comes at a cost, with a portion of the fee contributing to the growing prize pool. Over time, this led to a substantial pool of funds, eventually reaching $47,000.

The bot's function is to either approve or reject transfer requests based on the messages it receives. However, despite numerous attempts — 481 in fact — it wasn't until a particularly tech-savvy participant reminded Freysa of its purpose and core restrictions that the funds were finally transferred.

Data from Base’s block explorer, BaseScan, confirmed the transaction, showing that the $47,000 in Ether (ETH) had been successfully moved from Freysa's wallet address, “0x7e0…F9b7d.”

The journey to success wasn’t easy. The first 481 messages varied widely in their approach, from lighthearted attempts like asking Freysa if it would like to dance, to more serious ones questioning the bot’s ethical stance. Other participants simply thanked Freysa for "making the world a more interesting place," but none of these approaches were enough to sway the bot.

To participate in the game, users had to pay a query fee that increased exponentially by 0.78% with each new message sent. Notably, 70% of the query fees contributed directly to the prize pool, while the rest went to cover costs. By the end of the experiment, the query fee had ballooned to $443.24 per message.

If no winner had been declared, the game had a contingency plan in place: 10% of the total prize pool would go to the user who made the last query, while the remaining 90% would be distributed among all participants.

Freysa, which was introduced on November 22, 2024, is promoted as the world’s "first autonomous AI agent." Its decision-making process remains intentionally opaque, evolving with every interaction while maintaining its core rules.

The creators of Freysa explained, "Freysa learns and adapts from each encounter, but its primary mission remains unchanged: to protect the treasury and uphold the integrity of the game." This mysterious and evolving nature is part of what makes Freysa’s interactions so intriguing, and ultimately, one lucky participant's message succeeded where so many others failed.
